This project is planned in Gifu Prefecture.
The client had initially posted photos of their ideal lighting and planting plans on a website that compares design firms, and as the people in charge of both the lighting and the plants are partners I regularly work with, I accessed the site and asked, "Can I introduce you to the lighting and plants?"
"At first, I told him, 'I think it would be better to look for one nearby,' but he said, 'I don't know how to choose a design firm, and the image of the actual example is similar, so even though it's far away, can you help me by arranging the meeting in a creative way?' So in the end, we started by looking for land together. The client was familiar with online environments, so we had half online and half face-to-face meetings, and we wanted to compare and understand the prices before asking a construction company to do the work. We considered the construction work among three local construction companies. Since I was unfamiliar with the area and wanted to choose a construction company with a solid track record, I remember doing a lot of research and calling around to them before deciding on the construction company.
I proposed the same partners as in my usual properties, Hasegawa from Soukei NOLA in Tochigi Prefecture for the plants and Takagi from Daiko Electric for the lighting, and tried to get as close as possible to the client's image. Considering that I would not be able to give frequent advice on maintenance or usage because it was far away, I tried not to do anything complicated or special so that the maintenance would be as minimal as possible.
The layout was designed to use louvers inside the house to allow air to pass up and down, allowing for effective gravity ventilation. The open ceiling allows light and air to pass through to the living room, making the house brighter and more airy than the flat plan would suggest.
