This is a renovation of a 40-year-old house.
It was a home that our family of five had treasured and filled with many memories, but over the years our family structure had changed and the rooms we needed also changed, so we started planning.
At first, we were unsure whether to rebuild or renovate. Since you were involved in the considerations from that stage, I also struggled with the decision. Since it had been 40 years, rebuilding would have been fine, but in the end, we couldn't leave the house, which was filled with family memories, so both the owner and the designer decided that renovation was the only option.
Renovation projects always involve many uncertainties. Even during partial demolition, we found many structurally fragile areas, so we carried out timely structural reinforcement work and spray-on insulation work to increase comfort throughout the summer and winter. While the exterior will remain almost unchanged, the interior is designed to be a comfortable space.
This is a house for my father, for him to settle down after work and enjoy his second life. We used plenty of solid wood materials to create a warm space. Of course, there is a living room, dining room, kitchen, study, and closet for everyday use, but on the second floor, we demolished the Japanese-style room that was connected to the main room and turned it into an atelier for him to enjoy his hobby of painting.
The interior finish is rough, but we would be delighted if you could paint whatever you like.
