We designed a booth for the trade fair "Nikkei Messe Construction Materials Exhibition" held at Tokyo Big Sight.
Previously, when I was working for a house manufacturer, I created a booth at a showroom for a company called "CHANNNEL ORIGINAL," which handled the building materials used for exterior and interior design. However, I ended up taking on this job purely by chance.
This is my first time doing booth design, and it is a very unique job. The actual on-site creation took about two days, then it was on display for four days, and we had a time limit of about three hours to dismantle it... There were many booths around, so I wanted to create something that was distinctive, yet calm and not eccentric.
I had heard that most of the materials would be discarded after demolition, so I tried to design with as little waste as possible in mind for future reuse. In fact, the framework was reused by the construction company, and the flooring was reused as a wood deck at my site, so we made adjustments to minimize waste.
I had planned to make it possible to assemble and disassemble it within the time limit, but the work of the craftsmen on site far exceeded my expectations. I gained something new from this exhibition, which made me realize that it's okay to ask them to do more difficult things.
I usually deal mainly with residential projects, but even in this type of work I have made many discoveries, met many new people, and reflected on many things, so I would like to continue doing this if the opportunity arises.
