I designed the exterior construction of a friend's house.
The home had not been built for over 10 years, and the exterior looked a little lonely compared to the streetscape, so this project was the starting point.
The client had been living in a way that ensured privacy from inside the building with curtains and shutters, so in this plan we considered how to maintain privacy inside the building without closing it off too much from the outside and without relying on curtains. At the same time, considering that the client had not been able to cooperate with the development of the streetscape for over 10 years, we placed a lot of plants on the street side in this plan to create a moist exterior.
The wooden louvers were installed at equal intervals on both sides to maintain the design from both the road side and the building side, while also acting as a privacy lattice to control the line of sight. The idea was to integrate the part that normally functions as a "fence" and the part that functions as a "gate".
During construction, when excavating to pour concrete for the car space, a relatively large stone came up, but Hasegawa, who was in charge of the plantings, had the idea to place it just as it was at the base of the trees, creating a variety with its undulating shapes.
The client was delighted when a local elementary school girl who regularly passes by the place said to her, "It's done beautifully," and made her very happy.
